Some may say that reading is the most focused on skill in elementary school. There are so many reasons why reading is important. We read to learn information. We read to escape and use our imagination. Reading is an important way to learn new vocabulary. Reading helps us with understanding and comprehension. When we read we can see into another person's perspective/approach.

Reading makes our brains stronger. When we read, we form new pathways in our brain. We are born wired to be speakers, but we must learn to be readers. We make those pathways in our brains as we develop as readers. It makes us better problem solvers. Our vocabulary increases. Reading helps us to see patterns in seeing the different parts of what we are reading. It can help our memory become better.

We read for pleasure. We also read to learn information. Reading to learn information is pretty clear, we read to learn. Reading falls across all content areas. Reading fiction is also very important. When reading fiction, we learn empathy. We learn to understand the world as others see it. It can foster critical thinking too.
